Wood grain

Wood is a porous and fibrous structural tissue found in the stems and roots of trees and other woody plants. Embellishments in Wood involve manipulation of the material and/or applying decoration. Forms include:

  • Carving – decorative cutting into wood.
  • Burning – also known as pyrography or poker work, uses a heated tool much like a soldering iron to etch designs on the surface.
  • Painting – applied to the prepared surface of wood.
  • Inlay – are made by cutting a shaped void into a piece of wood, and then filling that pocket with another piece cut to the same shape.
