Glass is a non-crystalline, often transparent amorphous solid. It takes well to various forms of embellishment, such as:
- Painted – applying glass paint onto a glass surface, or by painting and baking transparent colors on the glass surface.
- Stained – glass colored by mixing pigments inherently in the glass, by fusing colored metallic oxides onto the glass.
- Engraved – embellishment is cut into the surface of glass. It is distinct from glass art in the narrow sense, which refers to moulding and blowing glass, and from glass etching which uses acidic, caustic, or abrasive substances to achieve artistic effects.
